Over 265 law enforcement personnel from over 140 local law enforcement agencies from across Nebraska have been trained to use the AMBER Plan.
Steps for Activation: An alert would begin at the local level with a law enforcement agency responding to a child abduction that meets the AMBER Plan criteria. That agency would contact the Nebraska State Patrol Headquarters Troop Area dispatch center. An AMBER Plan Supervisor from the patrol would then confirm that the criteria are met and contact Nebraska ETV to deliver the alert to broadcasters across the state through the Emergency Alert System (EAS).
Scope of Amber Alert: Statewide
Criteria for Activation: Police confirm a child (age 15 or younger) has been abducted; The child is believed to be in danger of serious bodily harm or death; There is enough descriptive information to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help locate the child.
Utilizes Emergency Alert System: Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS), formerly called the Emergency Broadcast System, to air a description of the abducted child and suspected abductor.
