Sierra LaMar: Anatomy of a Search Day 66

He’s been to court twice now without entering a plea. The only words that he has spoken are, “Yes your honor”. There have been no developments in the case since Antolin Garcia-Torres was arrested for kidnapping and murdering Sierra LaMar on May 22. Sierra’s disappearance, which seemed on the verge of being solved 15-days ago, now seems as far from resolution as ever. Clearly, something needs to be done.

That’s why the terms of the $25,000 reward for the safe return of Sierra LaMar are being changed to include, “Information leading to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of Sierra LaMar”. Rewards aid law enforcement in arresting and successfully prosecuting crimes by providing financial consideration in exchange for information that will resolve a crime.

In theory, there are always people who know more about a given crime than they are initially willing to admit. They may be family, friends, acquaintances or simply somebody who saw or heard something that they were not supposed to see or hear. Often times these people require incentive before they are willing to come forward and divulge closely held secrets.

Rewards are clearly viable and have assisted in numerous cases over the years. One organization, Secret Witness, in Reno, Nevada has been providing rewards for more than 30-years. Secret Witness has grown from taking five or six calls a month to more than 200. Tips have helped solve more than 1,000 crimes, including 30 murders. That includes information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the 2008 kidnap and murder of 19-year-old college student Briana Denison.

Good people clearly want to do the right thing. Sometimes they just need motivation. First of all, providing valuable information that will result in a conviction is the right thing to do. Sierra and her family deserve nothing less. We all have, or love children. So we should put ourselves in Steve and Marlene LaMar’s shoes. If our daughter were missing we would want others to assist in bringing our child home. Finally, at the end of the night most of us are exhausted and ready for bed. The last thing that we need to ponder as we surrender to sleep is whether or not God knows what is in our hearts and minds.

If you are not the perp, but you know more than you are saying, providing information is not simply about good or evil. In the final analysis it’s simply about getting your priorities straight. Whether you are bound by humanity, spirituality or some other moral value, sometimes we simply need an extra incentive to do the right thing. That’s what rewards are about. Or at least we hope so, and after all, the reason that why we continue to show up to look for Sierra day after day is because hope reigns eternal.

  1. Elizabeth, I agree with the majority of what you’ve stated. And unless the family knows something that we don’t, there is no reason to believe that Sierra is alive. In fact, I believe that publicly stating this sentiment will only weaken the case against AGT, especially since they have not found a body. I have my own theory on why the PD may be sending messages conflicting those being expressed by the family, but I’d rather not post it here.

There is probably someone who knows something, or who may at least be able to offer some insight or expose some missing puzzle pieces. It’s also likely, given how shady AGT and his family are, that this person(s) would be easily motivated by money. However, I believe that it will co$t, and $25,000 is probably not going to do it. Get that reward up to $100,000+ and people will start coming out of the woodwork with info, perhaps even his wife or mom.

In the meantime, we need to continue searching. I just don’t know how any search is going to be fruitful when there is so much conflicting information out there. Don’t you have to know what you are looking for, and why, to know where to look to find it?

  2. Please people, the stuff like “i heard” only serves to hurt the family more. They are going through enough already. Putting rumors, hear say and the like on here does not serve any purpose other than to rub salt in people’s wounds. Please stop. Thank you!

  3. Dear Marc,
I know you are doing a great job, but, why is he not talking? If Garcia-Torres walks many people here in the Bay Area will be removing there children from school and will be Angry like we all were when Casey Anthony got off. Also,i heard that Sierra was leading a double life and she wanted to runaway, she did do drugs, what is going on here, either lock this monster up ,give the truth serum whatever it takes, this family needs some closure.but, you seem to feel she is alive and so do i..So many other children are missing, gone, vanished in thin air. Come on.we fear for our own safety..Something needs to be done soon.

  4. Well said Marc!

Something or someone has to give. I feel for the family, and it is one of the reasons why many of us have continued to search for her. Question everything, no matter if it seems to you insignificant, it maybe the key to solving and prosecuting the individual(s) responsible for Sierra’s disappearance.Thank you!!

  5. From March 16 through March 27, 2012 the Authorities didn’t have the 24-hour surveillance on the Suspect. That is 13 days that I believe the Authorities should look into. GPS only helps to show where the Suspect was, not where the Suspect was trying to avoid. Between those 13 days, from the day Sierra LaMar left her home to go pick up the bus for school, until the Authorities started their 24-hour surveillance is the time period on which I believe they should concentrate.
The Suspect’s cell phone. Who did the Suspect call between those dates. I believe the Suspect panicked, called and told someone. There is possibly someone else that is involved. I also noticed that the Suspect didn’t seem concerned during the first Court appearance and then during the second seemed a bit more aware of what was going on. I have my own opinion on that the Suspect thought for the first 13 days that he might have gotten away with the crime. When he noticed he had the 24-hour surveillance put on him and his surroundings, that he just decided to shrug it off. Told his family to just act normal. That should be a sign to his family that something was going on and that the Suspect might have done something wrong to get all that attention.
Since the Suspect was arrested, including his two court appearances, he has only spoken “Yes your Honor” to reply to a question that was asked toward him that we, the publc, have heard.
I totally agree with all my heart, that something clearly needs to be done soon. This has been going on for too long !!! For all of us, and exspecially Sierra LaMar’s Family, please do the right thing !!!
    Bring Sierra LaMar Home !!!
